January 2022

Hello Friends, Family, and Foes. Here is a monthly update for January 2022.

It has bee a while since I have posted anything. However, I am ready to start posting again. So here are some of the things for the first month of this new year. The content might not be from only January, but from the past two months or so.

Highlights:
- Taking Japanese Language lessons once a week. They are taught in French (Though the teachers do know English for the most part), which is interesting. I don’t speak French as a language, but it is Canada’s second language. French is used in Montreal, where the teachers are located.

- Taking a Fae Magic Workshop with my mum. I am already well versed in working with the Fae, but it is a good course to take together with her.

Below are some of the things I record over a month. The reason I record them is to track what media I am consuming so that I can identify if it is reflecting on any of my opinions or thoughts. I adapt very easily to things that I like, which can show in my personality and words. This is the way that I keep myself mindful of what I do and say.

Overthinking Ramble #1

Two days ago, I saw the HU preform live. It was beautiful. I really appreciate the deep sounds and how well all the members work together to make a truly memorable show.

While watching, I observed the percussionist, Ono, playing on electric drums.

I have been fascinated by electric instruments for a while. The ones that are made of rubber where the sound is only recorded on the computer or heard through speakers rather than reverberating sounds from the instrument itself.

I have been interested in these types of equipment since I started talking about them with my friend, Shouta. He also plays a variety of instruments, and we had discussed electric percussion instruments in the past.

While I was studying the instrument (and Ono playing it) during the show, I was able to pick up the small rubber and metallic sounds that the instrument itself would make aside from the loud beats coming from the speakers.

I thought to myself, I wonder how it must feel to hit an instrument and instead of it making the sound itself, it is coming from a separate place (the speakers). I wonder if it would feel disconnected to not have the satisfaction of something coming directly from an action you are doing. I realized that it might be the same feeling of disconnect that digital artists get comfortable with feeling when we draw things that are on a screen instead of physically in our hands. There is a layer of separation from both artistic practices.

I wonder how people feel about this barrier that is between them and the art they are creating in the moment.

I will attach one of their songs. It is one of my personal favorites. I was very excited to be able to hear it played live.

TESL: Beginner #1

Here is a illustrated exercise I created to help Beginner English students practice how to talk about their weekend plans.

To start the exercise, you will have the students recite the question at the same time to gauge if there is any confusion.

Start at one end of the room and ask a student the question, prompting them to respond using the worksheet.

Then have that student in the class ask the question of the person next to/behind them, to which that person responds using the exercise sheet.

That person will then turn around and ask the question to the next person until everyone has practiced. (the last person will ask the teacher the question to which you can respond)

This effectively engages each student to use both the question and the response.
